About Us

Genius Den Football Academy is a Non – Profit company serving the youth in the Rustenburg/Bojanala district, North West region.

Our mission is to support young people in our community to maximize their potential in football, education, and life, by fostering values of positive leadership, team ethics, and fair play along with the technical and tactical skills of the game.

The Academy also aims to provide leading youth coaches, provide inspirational and world-class services to its members.

Director Obadia “Butcher” Sehunoe

Originally from Mabeskraal Village and now living in Rustenburg. Obadia is the founder and director of Genius Den Football Academy. He has been involved in football in the Rustenburg area since 1992, having played professional football for Tlhabane Swallows FC in the then Bophuthatswana Soccer League (BOPSOL) and before that for Amazulu FC in the SAFA league in 1989/1990 seasons. Obadia holds a BSc Degree with the University of Zululand and has also studied MBA (Financial Management) with University of North West (Not completed).

He currently works as an independent Financial Advisor for Celtis Financial Services, having spent the last 20 years in management positions in major insurance companies, Old Mutual, Discovery and BrightRock.

Obadia started the Academy in response to his desire to give back to his childhood community and to share the personal learnings that he had benefited from in his travels through life and football in South Africa.

THE GENIUS DEN PHILOSOPHY

  • Opportunities for all : Players are not chosen solely on ability. Every player plays at least 50% of each match.
  • Coaches as Educators/Mentors: Certified coaches who participate in ongoing education and understand their roles as teachers, role models, and life mentors for children.
  • Competitive Player Development: Curriculum and Academy practices are designed to improve each player’s standard of play and ability to compete at a high level.
  • Positive Approach: Inclusive and supportive environments for players, and insistence on fair play.

OUR ACADEMY GOALS

  • Provide positive environments and exceptional playing experiences for young players
  • Train leaders and foster mentoring relationships between players that accelerate personal development
  • Increase and diversify opportunities for competition locally and abroad by collaborating with other organisations, supporting leagues, and hosting tournaments and community events.
  • Answer the calls and needs of the community as we continue to develop our programs.
